English/Language Arts - ELA

The English/Language Arts department offers the following courses for students:

The Language Arts curriculum is designed to provide students a powerful “communication skills” foundation.  Instruction is taught through a “whole language approach” with emphasis on skill development in the areas of reading, writing, and oral communication.  Both seventh and eighth grade curriculums follow the California State Language Standards and newly adopted Common Core curriculum.  In support of the standards, all students will be required to do extensive reading.  Reading will occur in class, but students will additionally be required to complete readings at home. Students will be required to complete writing assignments based on the readings.
