Today is national freedom day!!

February is Black History Month :Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month.
This month 8th Grade AVID has dedicated the board outside of room 1 to Historically Black Colleges or University (HBCU).
HBCUs are a source of accomplishment and great pride for the African American community as well as the entire nation. The Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, defines an HBCU as: “…any historically black college or university that was established prior to 1964, whose principal mission was, and is, the education of black Americans, and that is accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency or association determined by the Secretary [of Education] to be a reliable authority as to the quality of training offered or is, according to such an agency or association, making reasonable progress toward accreditation.”

Check out a few of the 107 HBCU and some of the incredible people that attended those colleges.

All you have to do is fill out a small column on a clip board with your name, the name of the person you are sending the candy gram to, and a little message if you want. For clearer instructions, just approach the people selling. We will be selling the candy grams by the office, everyday during lunch. Sales will be from the 30th of January to the 8th of February. Candy grams will be delivered during 7th period on Valentines day.

Tomorrow is Anything but a Backpack Day! Bring a container of some kind to carry your school supplies in for the day. Keep in mind all teachers have the authority to not let your container into their class if they think it will be distracting. Containers may not be rideable, motorized, or involve live animals. Have fun!
