October 11th National Coming Out Day! It is a date chosen to honor the bravery of LGBTQ+ individuals who decide to "come out of the closet" and live openly as their authentic selves. For some, coming out is no longer a big deal and being "out" can be easy. For others, coming out is still a huge challenge, the very real fear of facing bullying or judgement can cause LGBTQ+ people to stay ‘in the closet’. You can help these people and make our school become a safer and more inclusive space this week, during National Coming Out week. At lunch, on Wednesday, meet the GSA club by the flagpole to pledge your support for LGBTQ+ students and receive a rainbow ribbon to "Come Out" as an Ally.

The PRIDE Scan totals for August and September have been calculated!

PREDATORS earned 1,714 scans - that means the average student on their team earned 17 scans - getting PREDATORS the 1st place award of 50 spirit points.

PROWLERS earned 1,444 scans - an average of 14 scans per student-getting PROWLERS the 2nd place award of 40 spirit points.

PRIDE earned 1,238 scans - an average of 10 scans per student-getting PRIDE the 3rd place award of 30 spirit points.

PAWS earned 4,064 scans - an average of 8 scans per student - getting PAWS the 4th place award of 20 spirit points. Keep up the good work panthers and continue showing PRIDE in the classroom to earn scans from your teachers!

Teachers remember the percentage for attendance is starting today. Make sure and write your percentage on your poster.

Calling all Fantasy lovers, Lord of the Ring fans, and role players, Come to Room 16 wednesday at lunch To join the new Dungeons and Dragons club. All are welcome and the only fee is having fun!

Mr. Penton will be hosting an informational meeting at lunch in the MPR on Thursday at 12:30. He will be taking a group of students to ride bikes with veterans as they pass through Pismo Beach. Attend the meeting for more information, ask questions, and get a permission slip.

Free Volleyball Game today against Paulding. Join us for our first panther game where attendance is recorded and earns your team spirit points. Show up and support our athletes.

The Genders & Sexualities Alliance or Judkins GSA club meets Wednesdays at lunch in room 5. Today we will be making ribbons for National Coming Out Day. All are welcome!

Judkins will participate in the Support our Schools car raffle. Advisories will be competing against one another to see who can sell the most tickets. First place Advisory will get a pizza party and the second place advisory will get a donut party. The competition will last for the month of October. Ask your teacher for details and check your tickets out from Ms. Buenrostro in the office.

October 1st begins LGBTQ+ History Month. It is a month-long celebration of the history of the diverse community and the importance of civil rights movements in progressing gay rights. The observance was created by Rodney Wilson, a history teacher at a Missouri high school, in 1994. The following year, LGBTQ+ History Month was added to the list of commemorative months in a resolution forwarded by the General Assembly of the National Education Association. October was chosen as the month of observance as National Coming Out Day already existed as a holiday on October 11 and the anniversary of the first march for gay rights in Washington took place on October 14, 1979. Please enjoy reading the biographies of the interesting and creative individuals we should recognize this month.

Leadership is making a kudos wall which are compliments that you have for the school or for someone. They must be school appropriate comments. It will be in front of the office at lunch this week.
